What
In partnership with schools, Delta Classroom Canines Program (DCCP) is a program of Delta Therapy Dogs. It is aimed for those students of primary and high schools who would benefit from time spent with a Therapy Dog Team and highly trained therapy dog, applying best practical animal welfare design.
Why
There is a bond between dogs and people of all ages. The human-animal bond, especially from a dog, can lift spirits, make students feel wanted and included, and has been proven to improve health and wellbeing.
How
DCCP programs range from small weekly group sessions with one Therapy Dog Team working with students and teachers on individual goals. These can include literacy development, motor skills, an increase in social connectedness, encourage attendance and increase motivation. Large group sessions with several Therapy Dog Teams support general well-being and stress relief initiatives.
Who
For all primary and high school students who would benefit.
When & Where
Programs are delivered in schools in most states and several regional areas of Queensland, New South Wales, ACT, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia.
