Our Process

Building strong foundations for students.

Living Ripples works with schools to enable them to implement a locally-led, evidence-based approach to review, prioritise and improve student wellbeing and resilience.

Our support commences with a three-year engagement where schools are supported with data collection, insights and guidance on how to respond to focus areas specific for their school, their students and their community.

Schools can request a funded place through Living Ripples Ltd to participate in the three-year cycle (one round of Living Ripples). Ongoing support is subject to a school’s continued engagement in the process.

To begin your school’s journey toward improved student wellbeing, complete our Ask and Offer registration form and request a funded place in the Living Ripples program.

How we work

Empowering schools with a strategic approach.

There are four formal stages of Living Ripples in a school: to gather data, distil the priorities, act on the priorities and review the results from the plans implemented. During each school calendar year, schools complete the four stages.

Usually, the survey is completed in Term 1 or early in Term 2 and the development of the Action Plan soon after. Action Plan implementation and ongoing monitoring occur during in Terms 2, 3 and 4. In late Term 3 or during Term 4, a brief teaching team audit is done through an online survey and a more formal online action plan convened review ready for the next year.

Checking in on progress.

With the Action Plan(s) being implemented in a school, as delivery nears six months, a review, a quick online check-in survey with a select number of nominated teachers is done. This teacher audit is Stage 3 of the Living Ripples process. These findings from the check-in surveys and teacher feedback are helpful for Stage 4, the Student Wellbeing Action Plan review process.

Stock take and evaluation.

Within six months of the Student Wellbeing Action Plan being implemented, the school meets again with WiLDlab facilitators to review progress, refine next steps and prepare for the following school year. The review is Stage 4, the Student Wellbeing Action Plan review.

Sharing and connecting school experiences.

With a growing number of Living Ripples schools, building a national network of participating communities to help all children and young people to achieve their potential is a priority. Part of this is sharing and celebrating the great work schools are doing. We do this in a range of ways, one is co-creating school partner profiles.

Schools offer to be interviewed over the phone and a short story of their experiences, around 300 words, is prepared. Schools review the draft story prior to publication. These partner profiles bring Living Ripples to life and are instrumental in facilitating a network of connected communities. Please get in touch if you would like to share your school’s story.

Resilience Survey

Surveying students, staff, parents and carers. Data is collected using an online survey with all students, staff and parents at a school using the same six-digit access code which makes the data anonymous. Data is collected at the school cohort level capturing strengths, life satisfaction, hopefulness, anxiety and depression, coping style, risk and protective behaviours.

The survey age is from 7 years (Year 3) to 19 years (Year 12 or equivalent). Schools have immediate access to their data, some of it prefilled in standard reports through their unique portal.

Comprehensive data collection

An online survey is conducted among students, staff, and parents/carers, using a six-digit access code to ensure anonymity while capturing valuable data at the school cohort level.

Focus on wellbeing metrics

The survey collects information on key wellbeing indicators, including strengths, life satisfaction, hopefulness, anxiety, depression, coping style, and risk/protective behaviors.

Instant data access for schools

Schools receive instant access to their data through a unique portal, with some reports prefilled in standard formats, facilitating quick analysis and review.

Action Plan

The Action Plan stage gathers the findings and combines the data into grouped summaries. To do this, the school team reviews and investigates the survey findings with Living Ripples partner University of Adelaide WiLDlab (up to 90-minutes online meeting). During the online session, schools are provided with the knowledge and tools to co-create a preliminary Student Wellbeing Action Plan for them to develop further and add further plans to improve student resilience.

Aware that the Action Plan may identify a specific identified or urgent need that may not be in the school’s plan or current budget, Living Ripples offers a helping hand program, the SWAG.

Data gathering and summary

The Action Plan stage compiles survey findings into grouped summaries, enabling the school team to effectively review and analyze the collected data.

Collaboration with WiLDlab

Schools engage in a 90-minute online meeting with Living Ripples and University of Adelaide WiLDlab, gaining insights and tools to co-create a preliminary Student Wellbeing Action Plan.

Support for urgent needs

Recognizing potential urgent needs outside the school’s current plan or budget, Living Ripples offers the SWAG program to provide additional support and resources.

Teacher Audit

With the school action plans in place, nearing the six-month review, a quick online check-in survey with a select number of nominated teachers is conducted. This provides additional material for the Action Plan Review process.

Six-month review preparation

As the six-month review approaches, a quick online survey is conducted with selected teachers to gather valuable insights for the action plans.

Teacher participation

Nominated teachers participate in the check-in survey, contributing their perspectives and experiences, which are crucial for enhancing the review process.

Enhanced Action Plan insights

The collected data from the survey provides additional material for the Action Plan Review, ensuring that strategies align with the school’s evolving needs.

Plan Review

Within six months of the SWAP being developed, the school meets again with WiLDlab facilitators to review progress, refine next steps and prepare for the following school year.

At every stage, schools can access practical resources to assist their locally led implementation.

Mid-year review with WiLDlab

Six months after developing the SWAP, schools reconvene with WiLDlab facilitators to assess progress, refine next steps, and plan for the upcoming school year.

Ongoing support for schools

Schools receive continuous access to practical resources, ensuring they are well-equipped for their locally led implementation efforts at every stage of the process.
