What
A whole-school community approach developed by the New South Wales Primary Principals’ Association working with psychologist Michael Hawton, to address high levels of anxiety and to build resilience in a custom-built program for NSW primary school students.
Why
Evidence is showing that anxiety in primary school students is growing and that anxiety affects learning results, school absenteeism and general wellbeing. Once anxious behaviour is recognised within the school, the goal is to help students develop mental strength and resilience skills.
How
The Program has a sequence of professional learning for the principal, staff, school leaders and family management training for parents. Implementation coaches assist in supporting teachers and parents. School reviews of students establish the level of anxiety, followed by custom-built lessons aligned to the PDHPE curriculum delivered over two years with data collection both before and after the Program.
Who
Whole school involvement for primary schools.
