AA-HA! Global accelerated action for the health of adolescents

What

AA-HA! is a World Health Organisation (WHO) report to focus global and national policy and program attention on adolescent health and wellbeing.

Why

Adolescents are one sixth of the world’s population. They have specific health and wellbeing needs. Adolescence is a time when young people can start engaging in risky behaviour and this has a major impact on their health as adults. The evidence gathered and presented in AH-HA! is designed to support effective and coordinated global action to promote and protect adolescent health and wellbeing. A methodology Living Ripples seeks to provide at a school level.

How

The WHO seeks to foster a global approach to better meet the specific needs of young people by collecting evidence, analysing findings and developing recommendations for implementation. From the first report in 2017 to the second in 2023, the WHO describes an ‘unprecedented surge in the number of countries that have expanded adolescent health programmes’ to better support young people’.

Who

Contributors to AA-HA! are the WHO, Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), UN WOMEN, the World Food Programme and Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH).

When & Where

To provide research, evidence and programmatic issues being considered at a national and international level, provide ideas for schools, material to support engagement with Living Ripples and/or for the schools to contribute their findings to the global wellbeing focus on young people.
