Sleep & Gaming Resources for School

The wellbeing of children and young people extends well beyond the classroom. Two areas that significantly impact student health, learning, and behaviour are sleep and screen-based gaming — and the good news is, there are some fantastic free and evidence-based resources available to help schools, educators, and families take action.

Supporting Healthy Sleep Habits

Sleep is one of the most powerful contributors to a young person’s physical health, emotional regulation, and academic performance. Yet many students — particularly teenagers — are not getting the rest they need. Our curated Sleep Resources Guide brings together trusted tools and programs designed specifically for school settings, including:

  • ReachOut Schools — curriculum-aligned lessons and activities on the importance of sleep, tailored for high school and upper primary students.
  • Sleep Health Foundation — a comprehensive library of factsheets covering everything from school-aged sleep challenges to the impact of technology on rest.
  • Sleep Ninja App — a free, evidence-based app developed by the Black Dog Institute to help teenagers build better sleep habits over six weeks.
  • Smiling Mind — mindfulness-based sleep tools and checklists suitable for children and the adults who support them.
  • Raising Children Network — practical, age-specific fact sheets for children aged 5 through to 18.
  • The Sleep Connection — interactive school programs and a free guide to becoming a “Sleep Smart School.”

Navigating Gaming & Screen Time

Online gaming is a normal part of many young people’s lives, but it can also present real challenges around time management, wellbeing, and risk. Our Gaming Resources Guide highlights programs that help educators facilitate meaningful conversations with students about responsible gaming, including:

  • The eSafety Commissioner — freely available classroom resources and a dedicated space designed for children to explore online safety.
  • The Bridge — a targeted program for upper primary students exploring the risks associated with online gaming.
  • Game Aware — a school partnership program delivered by gamers themselves, focused on building responsible habits around online game use.
